ReplyDeleteUnit 4 Qns 3 why cannot write:
ReplyDeletethe noise level in the classroom became uncontrollable after the teacher came out of the class
Your answer is not wrong. It is just that you have placed the focus on "left" while I have placed the focus on "uncontrollable".
DeleteI will accept your answer as well.
Unit 5 Qns 3 why cannot write:
ReplyDeleteMy sister would rather read that go shop?
Shop is in base form
For "go shopping", "go" is the verb while "shopping" is actually is a gerund (a noun that comes from a verb).
DeleteWe just need to ensure that the verb is in base form.
For unit3 qns 2:
ReplyDeleteCan i write:Everybody expected him to decline our ideas
Your answer cannot be accepted because "decline" is not appropriate here.
Delete"decline" and "reject" have similar meanings. Both have the opposite meaning of "accept".
However, there is a slight difference.
"reject" means not to accept ideas, offers, invitations, requests, demands or even a person.
E.g.
1) My boss rejected my ideas.
2) I rejected the strangers' offer of a free ride.
3) I rejected her invitation to the party.
4) My request to bring a handphone to school was rejected.
5) Everyone in class rejected her because she was eccentric.
However, the usage of "decline" is not so broad.
"decline" means not to accept an offer or invitation.
2) I declined the strangers' offer of a free ride.
3) I declined her invitation to the party.
Not accepted:
1) My boss declined my ideas.
4) My request to bring a handphone to school was declined.
5) Everyone in class declined her because she was eccentric.
for unit 5 qn3,
ReplyDeletecan i write:My sister would rather read than to go shopping.
Hi Yan Ning,
DeleteThe "to" in front of "go shopping" is not necessary.
The structure of the sentence is:
... would rather [verb in base form] than [ verb in base form].
To ensure that both parts of the sentence are "balanced", we have to ensure that "would rather" and "than" are followed by verbs in their base forms.
Unit 4, Q3
ReplyDeleteCan I write like this: The noise level in the classroom became uncontrollable after the teacher went out of the class.
